Tailgate Takedown Kicks Off

7 January 2010 No Comment

Last night was the premiere of the new TLC reality show about tailgating, Tailgate Takedown. They really delivered.  Host Joe Cahn didn’t waste a lot of time on personal stories or rivalry tradition (touching on a couple) but instead spent nearly all of the episodes on tailgate grilling.

The first two episodes featured USC vs UCLA and Florida vs Alabama.  The real stars of the show were elk sliders, grilled gator, and shrimp skewers made with a tequila marinade (an audible by a father-daughter team who forgot to bring vinegar).

You’ll also see some pretty impressive tailgating setups – a lot of RVs, tents, and high-end trailer grills.  My personal favorite was a Volkswagen microbus, decked out in USC colors and logo.

If you haven’t caught it yet, Tailgate Takedown is definitely worth watching.  They spend a lot of the episode showing the contestant food prep and the amazing results.  You’ll come away inspired and will probably have a couple of new ideas for future games.
