How to Clean Your Grill

15 December 2009 No Comment

Worst part of the gameday experience (depending on your team of choice) is cleaning up your tailgate grill after the game.  This short video (courtesy of Lowe’s) gives you step-by-step instructions for cleaning your grill and tips for proper care and maintenance.  The video is geared more toward a home gas grill, but most of the tips are applicable for your portable grill as well.

The host has several good tips for proper grill cleaning.  These include:

  • Scraping of grill plate – let the heat do the work here, burning off food morsels and making it easier to scrape off.
  • Consider using aluminum foil when it makes sense.  I use it frequently and find it really reduces the mess at the end.  Go with a decent foil and stay away from the 99 cent rolls.   Otherwise it will tear and you’ll wish you never messed with it to begin with.
  • If you own a stainless steel grill, properly clean the exterior periodically.  Make sure it is cool first and go with the grain.

The host also has some great advice on doing a semi-annual cleaning.  It includes guidance on identifying parts that require repair, particularly if you are working with a gas grill.

If you decide to go with a quality grill, take good care of it!
