Super Bowl tailgating won’t exactly be like back home for Saints fans.  As fans prepare for their first-ever Super Bowl trip, many are starting to learn about some of the NFL’s Super Bowl tailgate party limitations.  Some fans aren’t thrilled about the rules.
“We’re New Orleans people, bro. They want us to come down there like we’re doing church choir or something,” said James Simmons of Mandeville, who’s having trouble even finding a place to park the RV he’ll drive to South Florida this week.
Bourbon Street it ain’t.

In honor of today’s Eagles-Cowboys game and NBC’s recent Jay Leno nostalgia, here is a classic Tonight Show bit on Eagles fans tailgating.  I had seen this before but was still good for a few chuckles.

In the interest of fair and balanced coverage, here’s a few tailgating scenes from Cowboys Stadium earlier this season (at the big season opener), including some Giant fan taunting, keg stands, tailgate grilling, and awkward dancing to Black Eyed Peas.

Tailgate Takedown Kicks Off

Last night was the premiere of the new TLC reality show about tailgating, Tailgate Takedown. They really delivered.  Host Joe Cahn didn’t waste a lot of time on personal stories or rivalry tradition (touching on a couple) but instead spent nearly all of the episodes on tailgate grilling.
The first two episodes featured USC vs UCLA and Florida vs Alabama.  The real stars of the show were elk sliders, grilled gator, and shrimp skewers made with a tequila marinade (an audible by a father-daughter team who forgot to bring vinegar).

Tailgaters Ready for Championship Game

The National Championship Game is just about here and tailgaters are already gearing up.  Barricades are up and RVs have been rented.  Looks like it will be one helluva party.
I can’t speak for ‘Bama but the Longhorn fans definitely do tailgating right.  The tailgating is a bit spread out for home games (even extending across I-35), but spirits are always high, scents are always good (except on 6th Street), and you see burnt orange for miles in any direction.  It would have to rival just about any tailgate party in …

Coinciding with next week’s BCS Championship, TLC will be introducing a new six-episode series entitled Tailgate Takedown.  Tailgate Takedown will feature top-shelf tailgaters representing different college football teams, facing off against rival schools.  Three tailgate teams from each of the selected schools will demonstrate their grilling talents and battle for Tailgate Takedown bragging rights.

Merry Christmas!

As 2009 winds down, please enjoy your holiday season and have a great Christmas holiday.  Hopefully, you are spending it with family and loved ones.  We’ll have plenty more tailgating recipes, recommendations, and other helpful tips as we race into the new year but are really looking forward to spending the next few days celebrating with family.  If everything goes as planned, there might even be a little bit of skiing time built into the schedule!
